First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has called for the creation of an environment that promotes responsible journalism, emphasising the need to uphold core professional standards across the media sector.

In a message shared on X to mark World Press Freedom Day, she highlighted the importance of a free and independent press in protecting human rights, preventing corruption and supporting democratic governance.

The First Lady described the occasion as an opportunity for media professionals to reflect on journalistic ethics, noting that greater emphasis must be placed on strengthening responsibility within the profession. She said journalism should remain grounded in key principles, including seeking the truth, ensuring accuracy and maintaining fairness and impartiality.

She further acknowledged the contribution of journalists in informing the public and raising awareness, commending their efforts to serve communities through credible and reliable reporting.
