The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a white alert from Haa Alifu Atoll to Thaa Atoll, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across a large part of the country.

The alert is in effect from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today, with gusts of up to 40 miles per hour expected during showers. Adverse weather conditions are forecast across northern to central atolls during this period.

The MET stated that conditions are likely to include intense rainfall, thunderstorms and reduced visibility, with rough seas also expected in affected areas. The agency noted that such conditions may impact travel and outdoor activities.

Authorities have advised the public to take necessary precautions and urged seafarers to exercise caution due to strong winds and unstable sea conditions.
