The Ministry of Defence and National Service and the National Disaster Management Authority have held discussions on strengthening disaster management systems in the Maldives.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Defence Aishath Safoora and NDMA Chief Executive Hisaan Hassan, along with senior officials from both institutions. The discussions focused on enhancing coordination and improving existing disaster response mechanisms.

Officials also reviewed ongoing efforts to strengthen preparedness and response capacity, including support received through international partnerships. In this regard, the Government of Japan has provided disaster relief equipment worth USD 4.3 million (approximately MVR 66 million) to assist national response efforts.

Authorities noted that continued collaboration between agencies and international partners remains key to improving readiness and ensuring effective responses to emergencies.
