Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Visit Maldives Corporation Ibrahim Shiuree has participated in the 2026 Annual General Meeting of the Pacific Asia Travel Association held in Gyeongju, South Korea.
The meeting was held as part of the PATA Annual Summit 2026 and brought together tourism leaders, industry stakeholders and member organisations from across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss strategic priorities and emerging developments affecting the global tourism industry. Ibrahim Shiuree attended the meeting in his capacity as a board member of PATA, representing the Maldives within the regional tourism organisation.
Discussions during the summit focused on areas including sustainable tourism growth, destination resilience, policy development, digital transformation and strengthening cooperation among tourism stakeholders. The wider summit, held under the theme “Navigating Towards a Resilient Future,” was attended by more than 550 delegates representing over 35 destinations.
According to Visit Maldives Corporation, the summit programme included governance meetings, policy discussions and industry roundtables addressing evolving tourism trends and regional challenges. Topics discussed also included destination marketing strategies and the impact of ongoing global developments on international travel patterns.
Commenting on the discussions, Shiuree stated that the summit provided valuable insight into changing priorities within the tourism sector, particularly as destinations continue responding to global uncertainties and shifting travel trends. He noted that platforms such as PATA remain important for strengthening regional cooperation and supporting long-term tourism planning.
