First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has said food safety is a shared responsibility that requires the participation of everyone involved in the production, preparation, sale and consumption of food.

In a message shared on X to mark World Food Safety Day, the First Lady highlighted the importance of safe food in preventing foodborne diseases and reducing the burden they place on healthcare systems and livelihoods around the world. She noted that ensuring food safety is a collective effort involving food businesses, health professionals and consumers alike.

She said every individual has a role to play in ensuring that food is safe and free from contamination and harmful substances, and stressed the importance of maintaining food safety standards throughout the food chain, from production and preparation to sale and consumption.

The First Lady also underscored the need for greater awareness and adherence to food safety practices, noting that cooperation across all sectors is essential to protecting public health and safeguarding communities from adverse consequences. She said promoting food safety practices and working together to strengthen food safety systems would contribute to a healthier future for all.

World Food Safety Day is observed annually on June 7 to raise awareness of the importance of safe food and the prevention of foodborne diseases.
