President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has congratulated King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón following Spain's victory at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

In separate messages, the President described Spain's triumph as a reflection of the national team's talent, dedication and sporting excellence. He noted that football is widely followed in the Maldives and that the Spanish national team enjoys strong support among Maldivians.

The President said Spain's World Cup victory was celebrated across the Maldives, adding that the achievement further strengthens the friendship and close ties between the two countries.

He also highlighted the longstanding relations between the Maldives and Spain, expressing appreciation for the contributions made by Spanish visitors and partners to the continued growth of the Maldives' tourism industry.

The President concluded his messages by wishing King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez good health and the people of Spain continued peace, prosperity and success.
