The Maldives is showcasing its tourism industry and a range of locally produced goods and services at the 10th China-South Asia Expo, which opened in Kunming, Yunnan Province.
The Maldives' participation is being led by Visit Maldives in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade (MEDTT), with several local businesses also taking part in the exhibition. The Maldivian delegation includes representatives from MIFCO, Authentic Maldives, LoveMe, Anbalange, Arena Maldives and Viva Trips.
The six-day expo, running from June 11 to 16, is one of the largest trade and consumer exhibitions in the region and brings together businesses, industry stakeholders and consumers from China and South Asian countries. Through its participation, the Maldives is seeking to strengthen its presence in one of its key markets while creating opportunities for local businesses to promote their products and services to a wider international audience.
At the exhibition, Visit Maldives is promoting a broad range of tourism experiences available in the country, while participating businesses are showcasing products and services spanning the fisheries, tourism, retail and handicraft sectors. MIFCO is exhibiting Maldivian fisheries products, while Authentic Maldives is promoting local products and cultural experiences. LoveMe is showcasing souvenirs produced in Fuvahmulah, Anbalange is presenting locally made jewellery, and Arena Maldives and Viva Trips are promoting travel-related services.
The Maldives pavilion also serves as a platform for engagement with travel trade representatives, businesses and industry stakeholders attending the expo. Promotional materials in Mandarin have been prepared as part of efforts to increase awareness of the Maldives among Chinese consumers and tourism partners.
China remains one of the Maldives' most important tourism source markets, and participation in the expo forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain market visibility, strengthen trade links and support growth in visitor arrivals from the region.
