Parliament has approved the appointment of Hassan Zareer as Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, following his nomination by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Zareer was appointed to the post on 8 June and his nomination was subsequently submitted to Parliament for approval, as required under the Constitution. After reviewing the nomination, Parliament's Government Oversight Committee unanimously recommended that he be approved for the position. The appointment was later endorsed unanimously by all 49 members present during the parliamentary sitting.

Zareer previously served as Deputy Commissioner General and Commissioner General of the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA). He holds a Bachelor of Accounting degree and a Master of Science in Finance from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
