The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded the contract to design and build the Age Care Centre in Shaviyani Funadhoo.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare. State Minister Ibrahim Ismail signed on behalf of the Ministry, while MTCC Deputy Managing Director Ahmed Mubeen signed on behalf of the company.

Valued at MVR 37.46 million, the project involves the construction of a two-storey aged care centre with a capacity of 40 residents. It will also include a health facility, an administrative office, staff accommodation, essential service facilities and a recreational area.

Construction is scheduled to be completed within 360 days.

Funadhoo has a population of 4,186 and is expected to benefit from the new facility, which will strengthen services and care for the island's elderly residents.

MTCC said it has undertaken infrastructure development projects across the Maldives over the past 45 years.
