The Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, has denied involvement in the alleged allocation of land plots outside the beneficiary list under the Binveriya Scheme.
At a press conference held at HDC, he clarified the role of the HDC and addressed accusations that has been circulating on social media.
According to Fazul, the HDC’s responsibilities are limited to verifying applications submitted through its portal, while land allocation and agreements fall under the purview of the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development.
He explained that applications for permissions, such as building boundary walls, require verification of registered landowners. Fazul emphasised that land allocations cannot be made without the Housing Ministry’s approval and distanced himself from the allegations.
Fazul also stated that police had visited the HDC to investigate the matter and assured full cooperation. He said that neither the HDC nor its employees had engaged in any improper activities or exempted anyone from the rules governing the Binveriya Scheme.
The controversy originated from a social media post claiming that a plot of land had been illegally allocated to an individual connected to Fazul’s family.
In response, Fazul reportedly dismissed the rumours as defamatory and inaccurate. He stressed that the issue arose from two individuals applying for the same land plot, leading the HDC to escalate the matter to the Housing Ministry for verification. Documents concerning the disputed plots have since been circulated on social media, which Fazul attributed to procedural checks.
Fazul reaffirmed that the HDC has conducted its activities transparently and has not engaged in any illegal actions regarding land allocations.
