Member of Parliament for Baarah constituency Ibrahim Shujau has said that the outcome of the recent local council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections demonstrates public support for the policies of the People’s National Congress (PNC).

Speaking at a ceremony held in Haa Alifu Muraidhoo to celebrate the party’s election performance, MP Shujau said election results reflect the direction of public sentiment, adding that the latest outcome clearly shows support for the ruling party.

He cited overall vote totals, stating that PNC secured 277,011 votes, while the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party received 258,050 votes. This represents a vote share of 42.92 per cent for PNC and 39.8 per cent for MDP, he said.

MP Shujau stated that the figures indicate that Maldivians have endorsed the policies of the ruling party, noting that the results should be viewed in the context of overall voter support.

He also referred to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, stating that unlike in the past, the President has accepted the election results and is focused on addressing areas that require improvement.

Mp Shujau added that the PNC parliamentary group would extend full support to any policy or legislative changes aimed at strengthening governance and delivering necessary reforms.
