Minister of Health, Family and Welfare Geela Ali has said 166 health infrastructure projects are currently being implemented across the Maldives to strengthen healthcare services nationwide.

Responding to questions in Parliament on Wednesday, the minister said the health sector remains one of the Government's largest areas of infrastructure development, with projects at various stages of implementation across the country. She said the projects include both Government-funded initiatives and those being carried out through companies.

The minister stated that the developments will expand access to essential healthcare services by upgrading facilities to accommodate MRI and CT scan equipment, establishing dental and dialysis services in islands where they are not currently available, and recruiting additional healthcare personnel.

Minister Geela said the projects are aimed at improving healthcare services and ensuring better access to quality medical care for communities across the Maldives.

She added that the Government has prioritised healthcare infrastructure in this year's budget, with significant funding allocated to health sector projects and programmes.

The minister's remarks follow recent comments by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who said major health infrastructure projects are expected to be completed by mid-2028, while several others will be finished earlier.
