Dr Aminath Fazna --
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed condolences following the passing of Dr Aminath Fazna, the Maldives' first specialist in developmental and behavioural paediatrics, who pioneered care for children with conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
In a post on X, the President described Dr Fazna as the first Maldivian doctor to provide specialised care in child development and behavioural health, recognising her invaluable contribution to the nation. He extended his sympathies to her family, staff of Dharumavantha Hospital and the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), as well as the wider healthcare community.
The President also prayed for the late Dr Fazna, praying Allah grants her eternal paradise and shower her with His boundless mercy.
Dr Fazna, 47, passed away at IGMH while undergoing treatment for cancer.
A trailblazer in developmental paediatrics, Dr Fazna became the Maldives' first specialist in the field, dedicating her career to supporting children with developmental and behavioural conditions. She had been serving at IGMH since 2024, where she played a key role in expanding specialised services for children and their families.
Her passing has been widely regarded as a profound loss to the Maldivian healthcare sector, reflecting the lasting impact of her expertise, compassion and commitment to advancing developmental and behavioural healthcare in the Maldives.
