Parliament has approved the appointment of Fathimath Ameeza as the new Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).
The appointment was endorsed unanimously, with 64 members voting in favour during Wednesday's parliamentary sitting.
Before the vote, Parliament's Economic Committee reviewed the nominations submitted by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and interviewed both candidates. The committee awarded Ameeza 92.44 per cent, the highest score, while Mohamed Haleem Abdulla received 82.89 per cent.
The committee concluded that both candidates met the qualifications required for the position and forwarded its report to Parliament for consideration.
Ameeza currently serves as Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation at MIRA and holds a Master's degree in Accounting from Monash University, Australia.
The post became vacant following the resignation of Hassan Zareer, who stepped down after being appointed Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises.
