The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has launched a Traffic Enhancement Plan aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing congestion during peak hours in Malé and on the bridge highways.

The plan was introduced by Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed during a meeting with Traffic Police and Road Management officers. It was developed by the Traffic Police under the commissioner's guidance.

MPS said the initiative will identify peak traffic hours and deploy additional traffic police to key congestion points to improve traffic management and assist motorists and pedestrians.

The identified locations include the Sinamalé Bridge Highway–Boduthakurufaanu Magu to Artificial Beach, the junctions of Sosun Magu and Majeedhee Magu, Chaandhanee Magu and Majeedhee Magu, Maaveyo Magu and Majeedhee Magu, as well as the Maafannu Cemetery area.

Police said the increased deployment of officers is expected to improve traffic flow while also helping to reduce traffic violations and other crimes in the targeted areas.

The Maldives Police Service also appealed for public cooperation to ensure the success of the new traffic management plan.
