The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has disbursed MVR 90.1 million in medical welfare assistance during the first six months of 2026 to people requiring financial support beyond the coverage provided under Aasandha.

Information shared by NSPA with MMTV shows the agency has disbursed MVR 2.06 billion in medical welfare assistance over the past nine years, from 2018 to the end of June 2026.

In 2024, NSPA provided MVR 490.7 million in assistance to people who required additional support for medical treatment beyond Aasandha coverage. The amount disbursed fell to MVR 360.4 million in 2025.

Between January and the end of June this year, NSPA disbursed MVR 90,118,739.77 through its medical welfare assistance programme.

The agency provides financial assistance for medical expenses that are not covered under Aasandha. This includes support for hospital bills, accommodation, and other expenses incurred while seeking treatment overseas. NSPA also assists in obtaining certain types of medication.

The figures released by NSPA show that the amount of assistance provided through its various welfare programmes has continued to increase over the years.
