Malé City experienced heavy rains from midnight until 7 a.m. today, resulting in widespread waterlogging, flooding of homes, and significant disruptions to daily life.

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) reported that the city received 136.5 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, the highest recorded nationwide during this period.

The worst-hit areas were around the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and Westpark, where flooding was most severe.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue unit began pumping out water before dawn, deploying 16 pumps across five critical locations, including Villimalé Ferry Terminal, Dhiraagu, and Jelly Pizza. Sandbags are being placed throughout the city to prevent water from entering buildings, and debris from roads is also being removed.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), working alongside local authorities, is assisting affected households and advising the public to take preventive measures.
