The Maldives has officially welcomed its two millionth tourist for 2024, marking a historic milestone for the country’s tourism industry and fulfilling a key target set by the Government for the year.

The two millionth tourist, Astrid Dirnegger from Austria, was welcomed upon arrival by the Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal and the Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Ibrahim Shiuree.

The achievement reflects a year of steady growth for Maldives tourism, with the country surpassing last year’s total arrivals of 1.87 million on December 8—marking a 9 per cent increase in tourist numbers for 2024.

Notably, December alone recorded 155,063 tourist arrivals in its first 24 days, representing a 7 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Earlier this week, Minister Faisal highlighted that reaching this ambitious target underscores the resilience and dedication of the Ministry, the tourism industry, and the Government.

With this historic achievement, the Maldives continues to strengthen its reputation as a global tourism powerhouse, paving the way for sustained growth, innovation, and further milestones in the years ahead.
