Former Managing Director of the Road Development Corporation (RDC), Moosa Ali Manik, and former Chief Financial Officer, Yasir Hassan, have been issued travel bans, with their passports seized amid an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct at RDC.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the investigation focuses on the suspected misappropriation of MVR 14 million from RDC during the previous administration.

Police confirmed that the financial misconduct involve three individuals, with the funds being funnelled into their personal accounts. Of the total amount, MVR 11 million was deposited into one senior official's account, while the remaining MVR 4 million was distributed across the accounts of two others.

Additionally, police revealed that 216 transactions were made from RDC accounts into an accused individual's account, with many of these involving secondary transactions across multiple linked accounts. This intricate web of transfers, police noted, adds significant complexity to the investigation, as each associated account requires separate scrutiny to trace the flow of funds accurately.

As part of the investigation, police searched the residences of Moosa Ali Manik and Yasir Hassan, along with two other associated locations. Electronic devices were seized during the searches, although authorities have not disclosed specific details about the items confiscated.

The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to trace financial transactions and gather evidence linked to the alleged misappropriation.
