President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially launched the Bank of Maldives (BML) initiative to expand its ATM services to all inhabited islands of the Maldives.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the President's Office, included the unveiling of a newly installed ATM in Omadhoo, marking a key milestone in the project.
As part of the initiative, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the Bank of Maldives to extend ATM services nationwide. BML has 150 ATMs across the country at present, with plans to increase this number to over 250 by the end of 2025, ensuring that all Maldivians, regardless of their location, have access to essential banking services. This expansion aligns with President Dr Muizzu’s pledge to improve financial accessibility for all citizens.
During the event, Mohamed Shareef, CEO of BML, presented a memento to the President in recognition of the initiative's significance. The expanded ATM network is expected to greatly enhance financial services in remote areas and improve banking accessibility for communities throughout the Maldives.
