World’s tallest navigation precast installed under Thilamale’ bridge project

Afcons has successfully installed the World’s tallest precast navigation span segment under the Greater Malé Connectivity Project.

In a post shared on X, the High Commission of India in Maldives highlighted that this is a huge achievement towards the completion of the Thilamale’ Bridge project. 

The segment measures 8.23 meters in height, 25.37 meters in width and it weighs 216.04 metric tons. The installation of the precast navigation span marks a significant milestone in Thilamale’ Project. 

Reposting the High Commission’s post, the Minister of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib stated that with this significant milestone, the government expects an acceleration of work to ensure the project is completed as scheduled. He also thanked the High Commissioner of India G. Balasubramaniam for his close coordination in this project. 

According to the set timeline of this project, the bridge segment from Male’ to Gulhifalhu is scheduled to be finished by the end of March 2026. The segment from Gulhifalhu to Thilafushi is scheduled to be finished by the end of September 2026. The completion of the Greater Male connectivity project is expected to be by the end of September 2026.

Thilamale’ project was awarded to India’s Afcons Infrastructure in August 2021. This project is funded through a USD 100 million grant and a USD 400 million concessional credit line from India’s Exim Bank.
