The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced a new policy to prioritise higher education assistance through the Zakat Fund, focusing on financial need, educational qualifications, and service to the country.

Under the new policy, Zakat Fund scholarships will cover full tuition fees for courses ranging from level 5 to level 10 of the National Qualifications Framework. These scholarships will only be available for programmes validated and recognised by the Maldives Qualification Authority.

The policy outlines that priority will be given to individuals listed in the official register of the low-income individuals and orphans, with financial status, academic background, and length of service to the country serving as key selection criteria.

However, exceptions will be made for students aiming to pursue qualifications higher than their existing educational level or courses related to Islamic concepts in their chosen field of study.

Beyond higher education, the Zakat Fund continues to provide essential support in various areas. In November 2024, the fund allocated over MVR 1 million to assist individuals requiring medical treatment.
