The Maldives Police Service announced on Wednesday that Police Superintendent Rajunee Shuaib, who heads the Economic Crime Unit, has been cleared of wrongdoing in his acquisition of a flat from the Vinares housing project.

In a statement issued on social media platform X, the Police said their review of information from relevant authorities revealed no violations in the acquisition process. The investigation was launched in December 2024 after allegations emerged that Superintendent Rajunee had improperly received a flat under the Vinares Housing Project.

Rajunee was temporarily suspended from his role on December 21, 2024, in response to public concern and to protect the credibility of ongoing investigations. Police Spokesperson Ahmed Shifan clarified at the time that the suspension was a precautionary measure rather than an indication of misconduct.

His reinstatement status remains unannounced.

The allegations surfaced amidst a broader criminal investigation into the Binveriya land ownership scheme, where individuals had allegedly falsified documentation to claim land allocations under the previous government.
