Housing, Land, and Infrastructure Development Minister Dr Ali Haidar has announced that the provisional list of 4,000 flats to be built in Hulhumalé Phase II will be released next week, with an option for the public to file complaints.
The announcement, made on PSM News’ Raajje Miadhu’, confirmed that the Housing Ministry is finalising evaluations of applications, with plans to complete the list and hand over flats by the end of the year.
The housing scheme, initially launched in 2022 by the previous administration under the "Gedhoruveriyaa" initiative, received over 20,000 applications. Although 13,000 applicants were deemed eligible, only 4,000 flats were actively under construction.
Following the initial list, approximately 7,500 individuals filed complaints, and 300 cases were submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). An ACC investigation revealed that 59.6 per cent of the initial applicants did not meet eligibility requirements.
The Housing Ministry, following the ACC’s recommendations, re-evaluated applications, delaying the release of a final list. The Flats Development Corporation (FDC) has reported that structural work for the flats is complete, with the units expected to be ready in the first and second quarters of 2025.
