Fire that broke out in Maafannu
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has confirmed that the fire which broke out in a warehouse in Maafannu has been brought under control.
The fire occurred at the Prime Godown warehouse, located at the junction of Izzuddin Magu and Funuhiya Magu, near the Elections Commission’s voting centre close to Thaiba Mosque. Firefighters, along with police, responded swiftly and remain active at the scene.
The MNDF stated that emergency teams were dispatched within minutes of receiving the report and immediately began efforts to contain the blaze, with all available resources deployed for the operation.
Authorities confirmed that the fire is now under control and that there is no risk of it spreading further. As a precaution, residents from five nearby homes have been evacuated, and a large section of the road has been closed to facilitate emergency response and vehicle clearance.
The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) also assisted in the operation, deploying its largest firefighting vehicle to support MNDF teams.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said assistance is being provided to 18 individuals from four affected families.
Initial information indicates that the warehouse was used to store chemicals and fertlisers. The building suffered severe damaged, while several vehicles parked nearby also sustained varying degrees of damage.
