The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a warning regarding adverse weather conditions expected to affect the country from January 13 to January 18, 2025.

According to MET Office, a cyclonic circulation currently located in the southwest Bay of Bengal, far east of the Maldives, is projected to move westward.

This system is anticipated to generate intense convective cloud formations over the Maldives, resulting in widespread rain accompanied by occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms during the week.

The MET Office has also forecast strengthened average wind speeds and rough seas, with the likelihood of swell surges, particularly in the northern and central atolls. These conditions may pose risks to marine activities and coastal areas.

Residents and travelers are strongly advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and advisories issued by the MET Office. Precautionary measures should be taken to ensure safety during this period of adverse weather.
