Velana International Airport (VIA) marked a significant expansion of its cargo operations with the inauguration of Afcom Cargo's scheduled charter services on Sunday, January 12, 2025.

The inaugural flight from Chennai, India, successfully delivered 20 tonnes of cargo to VIA, which was subsequently transferred through Etihad Airways' network. Afcom Cargo will initially operate three weekly flights, with plans for expanded service frequency in the coming months.

To enhance cargo movement capabilities, Afcom Airlines is actively pursuing interline agreements with major international carriers. This strategic initiative aims to strengthen VIA's position in the global air cargo network.

According to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), the introduction of Afcom's air-to-air cargo services marks a significant milestone in VIA's service expansion. They emphasised that MACL remains committed to strengthening the Maldives' economic position in international trade.

MACL emphasises that all operations will maintain the highest international safety standards, with a continued focus on delivering exceptional customer service.
