Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen has announced that the Government plans to introduce the taxi line service in Addu City within this year.
The Minister made the remarks while speaking at the official launch ceremony of the Malé Taxi Line service on Thursday.
During his address, Minister Ameen highlighted that residents of Addu City continue to face challenges in accessing taxi services for travel between locations. He noted that the expansion of the taxi line to Addu is aimed at addressing these difficulties and improving accessibility.
He added that, under the guidance of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, efforts are underway to extend essential services beyond Malé, with Addu identified as a priority location for such initiatives.
“If the plan proceeds as intended, a taxi line similar to the one launched in Malé will be established in Addu City within this year,” the Minister said.
Ameen also assured that the introduction of the taxi line service would not disrupt or hinder the operations of existing taxi service providers currently operating in the city.
