The People’s National Congress (PNC) has announced a final campaign rally, titled “Rayyithunge Bodu Hingaalun,” ahead of this weekend’s nationwide elections.

The rally is scheduled to take place on Friday at 3:45 p.m., beginning at the party’s campaign headquarters. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is expected to attend in his capacity as party leader.

The event marks the conclusion of a two-month campaign period, as the party moves to mobilise supporters ahead of the official cooling-off period.

Voters will head to the polls on Saturday for three separate electoral processes: the Local Council elections, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections, and a public referendum. The referendum will seek public opinion on a proposed constitutional amendment to hold presidential and parliamentary elections on the same day in the future.

The PNC is contesting the elections with the largest number of candidates across both the council and WDC races. The party has also secured several seats uncontested.

The rally is expected to serve as the final major campaign event for the ruling party as it seeks to consolidate support across local governance bodies.
