Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu has stated that measures are being taken to ensure that learning at Gaafu Atoll Education Centre continues without disruption following a fire incident.

The fire, which broke out last night, destroyed one of the school’s buildings. The affected areas included the primary teachers’ staff room, the printing room, and one classroom.

In a post shared on social media, the Minister said efforts are underway to replace essential equipment, including printing machinery, computers, and furniture required by teachers. These arrangements are being made to allow classes to resume as scheduled next week.

Dr Shafeeu also expressed gratitude to those who assisted in bringing the fire under control. He extended special thanks to the residents of Villingili for their significant contribution to the firefighting efforts, as well as to all others who took part in the response.
