Former President Mohamed Nasheed has described the Government’s repayment of the USD 500 million Sukuk as encouraging.

In a post on X, Nasheed welcomed the full settlement of the Sukuk, noting that it was achieved without taking on additional debt. His post characterises the development as a positive step for the Maldives’ financial management and an indication of progress in meeting key national obligations.

The Government successfully completed the repayment of the USD 500 million Sukuk, as President Dr Mohamed Muizzu assured his Administration would, one of the country’s most significant external financial commitments, at a time of heightened global economic uncertainty.
