Former Attorney General Uza Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed has called on the public to vote in favour of the referendum on holding presidential and parliamentary elections on the same day, stating that expert opinion supports the proposed change.

The referendum is scheduled to be held alongside the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections, with the vote on synchronising presidential and parliamentary elections widely regarded as the most consequential among the three.

Uza Dhiyana has been among the more prominent advocates supporting the proposal, previously outlining the potential institutional and electoral benefits of holding both elections concurrently.

Several political parties, including the People’s National Congress (PNC), Adhaalath Party, Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) and Jumhooree Party (JP), have also publicly encouraged voters to support the measure.
