President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised that youth are a vital part of society and assured that his government is dedicated to empowering them.

Speaking at the Republic Day ceremony at Dharubaaruge, the President outlined various initiatives aimed at supporting and engaging young people.

President Dr Muizzu highlighted the formation of the Maldivian Youth Advisory Committee this year, designed to maximise youth involvement in national affairs. He noted that 3,470 young people have participated in 71 targeted youth empowerment programmes.

He also underscored the importance of sports in fostering a healthy society, stressing the need for enhanced sports promotion and athlete training across diverse fields. The Government, he said, has provided substantial support to sports associations and is actively developing sports facilities in Malé and the atolls. Reflecting on the results of these efforts, he shared that Maldivian athletes have participated in 75 international events this year, securing 12 medals for the country.
