The Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts that the current spell of rough weather will persist until Saturday.
According to the Met Office, today will bring widespread storms to the northern and central regions, with several islands experiencing heavy rainfall and thunder. The southern atolls are also expected to feel the effects of this weather system.
Seas are forecast to be moderately choppy, with conditions worsening during storms. The northern and central atolls will experience winds of 13-23mph from the northeast and southeast, potentially gusting to 40mph during thunderstorms.
The Met Office continues to issue weather warnings, with the most recent being a white alert covering the area from Raa Atoll to Meemu Atoll, valid from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. today. Officials warn of heavy thunderstorms across these regions.

Wave heights throughout Maldivian waters are expected to range from 4 to 7 feet. Tomorrow is predicted to see the worst of the conditions.
With particularly rough seas expected across southern and central waters, and moderate conditions in the north, maritime authorities are urging all vessels to exercise caution while at sea.
