Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, has suggested that members of Parliament should be removable if their constituents demand it.

In an interview with state media, Speaker Abdul Raheem noted that while the constitution allows for the removal of the President, there are no similar provisions for the removal of elected lawmakers. He stated that laws and policies must evolve with changing times.

"While leadership can change, it does not make sense that elected representatives cannot be removed in this day and age," Speaker Abdul Raheem said.

He called for a legal provision that allows for the removal of individuals in public office if the people so wish

The Speaker also confirmed that important legal reforms, including amendments to key laws, will be considered by the 20th Parliament.
