President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attended the opening session of the World Leaders Climate Action Summit at COP29, held under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

This year's conference theme, “In Solidarity For A Green World,” aligns with the Maldives’ goals of advancing climate resilience and promoting sustainable development.

During COP29, President Dr Muizzu aims to underscore the unique climate challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS) like the Maldives. His participation builds on his previous engagement at COP28, where he unveiled a vision for a climate-resilient Maldives through initiatives such as planting five million trees and achieving 33 per cent renewable energy generation within five years.

The COP29 agenda focuses on setting a new collective financial goal, enhancing international cooperation, and addressing barriers to countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

As part of the summit, President Dr Muizzu joined other world leaders for a group photo, symbolising unity in their climate efforts. He is set to deliver his national address today, where he will share further insights into Maldives’ climate objectives and strategies for resilience.
