Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, has announced plans to establish two mobile units to deliver public services across Maldivian islands, addressing the financial limitations faced by island councils. The initiative, now under consideration by the Ministry of Finance and Planning, will include customs duty exemptions to support council-led public works efforts. The government aims to introduce these services in 15 atolls this year, with work already progressing on establishing public works units in seven regions throughout the country.
