The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has introduced a new policy to distribute Zakat al-Fitr equally among individuals on the national low-income and orphans registry. Previously, funds were distributed based on what was collected on each individual island, but under the new system, the country is treated as a single unit, with total collections divided equally among all eligible recipients. As a result of the revised policy, each person on the registry will receive MVR 4,500 this year.
