The Government has commenced the handover of plots allocated under Hulhumalé Phase III.
The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure announced tonight that plots from the Phase III allocation are now being handed over to recipients. Registry transfers for a number of beneficiaries were completed today, formalising ownership.
The plots had been allocated under the previous administration, although land reclamation had not yet been completed at the time. Since assuming office, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has prioritised accelerating reclamation works and expediting the process of plot allocation and handover.
Authorities have now also completed the demarcation of plots designated under Hulhumalé Phase III.
The Ministry noted that the land reclamation component of the project has been completed within a relatively short period. In total, 63 hectares of land have been reclaimed under the initiative.
The final stages of reclamation were carried out using two large dredgers, each with a capacity of 22,000 cubic metres. The use of high-capacity dredging equipment enabled faster completion of the project.
In addition to Hulhumalé Phase III, land reclamation efforts are ongoing in Giraavaru Falhu, where plots have also been allocated under a previous government housing scheme.
