Eid decorations are a meaningful part of Eid celebrations across the Maldives, reflecting a deep-rooted cultural emphasis on hospitality and community.

Older generations fondly remember preparing their homes by renewing Veli, white coral sand carefully swept and levelled in front of houses as a sign of respect and welcome.

Today, the festive atmosphere continues to thrive with fairy lights and handcrafted welcome arches known as Gidige. A more recent addition is the Government’s Eid Ali initiative, which involves illuminating islands across the country with colourful lights and displays.

Beyond the colourful displays, Eid decorations bring communities together and reflect shared values of celebration, hospitality and care. Whether through traditional sand-swept doorsteps or bright modern lights, the spirit of Eid continues to shine in every corner of the Maldives.
