Bank of Maldives (BML) has partnered with Special Olympics Maldives (SOM) to support inclusive sports development and expand opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

In a statement, the bank said the partnership forms part of its ongoing efforts to promote equal participation and accessibility within the community, particularly through sports.

Under the initiative, BML will support training programmes, health initiatives, family engagement activities and leadership development, as well as assist athletes in representing the Maldives at international competitions. The partnership is expected to benefit more than 500 registered athletes.

Special Olympics Maldives, the national affiliate of the global Special Olympics movement, focuses on empowering children and youth with intellectual disabilities through year-round training and competitions aimed at building confidence, improving fitness and developing essential life skills.

BML noted that it will also support community engagement activities under the partnership, adding that the bank remains committed to strengthening sports development and expanding inclusive opportunities for youth across the Maldives.
