Inguraidhoo Council has announced plans to organise an exhibition showcasing the island’s renowned craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
Scheduled for Saturday, 14 December 2024, the event is designed to revitalise Inguraidhoo’s reputation by highlighting the island’s renowned craftsmanship and cultural richness while creating opportunities for local artisans to showcase their work to visiting tourists.
Best known across the Maldives for its carpentry and skilled trades, Inguraidhoo’s exhibition will feature a variety of items that reflect both traditional and modern labour practices. The event will also include food stalls offering locally inspired delicacies, giving visitors a taste of the island’s culinary culture. Proceeds from sales will directly benefit the local artisans and creators.
The council emphasised that the exhibition is not just about promoting Inguraidhoo’s legacy but also about fostering sustainable livelihoods for its residents. It’s an opportunity for tourists to gain a deeper appreciation of the island’s craftsmanship and for locals to connect with an international audience.
The council is inviting individuals interested in participating to register at the council office by 2:00 PM on Sunday, 1 December 2024.
The initiative underscores Inguraidhoo Council’s commitment to blending cultural preservation with tourism development, ensuring that the island’s traditions remain vibrant while contributing to its economic growth.
