The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has strongly urged the public to refrain from sharing videos that depict the abuse of an individual accused of robbery in Kaafu Maafushi.

In a statement posted on X, the commission condemned the circulation of videos showing inhumane acts, stressing that the public must not publish or encourage the sharing of content that glorifies violence or cruelty. The commission emphasised that participating in or supporting such actions is a violation of human dignity and an affront to the fundamental principles of human rights.

The commission further stated that incidents of this nature should be referred to the relevant authorities. It also called upon these authorities to investigate the matter promptly and take appropriate action.

Additionally, the HRCM reminded all parties to respect the human rights and dignity of others, advocating for the resolution of criminal, civil, or other disputes through peaceful means and within the framework of the law.

This appeal was issued in response to the circulation of a video on social media, in which a man accused of robbery is shown being subjected to paint being poured over his body.
