According to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism, more than 200,000 tourists visited the country in December 2024 and each of the first three months of this year.

April is on track to continue this trend, with projections indicating another month surpassing the 200,000-visitor mark.

As of April 21, 2025, a total of 138,915 tourists had arrived in the Maldives—an increase of 22 per cent compared to the same period in April 2024. On average, more than 6,900 tourists have been entering the country each day this month. If this trend continues, an estimated 62,000 additional tourists are expected by month’s end, which would result in over 200,000 visitors in April as well.

Tourist Arrivals: December 2024 to March 2025

  • December 2024: 208,980 visitors
  • January 2025: 214,863 visitors
  • February 2025: 214,091 visitors
  • March 2025: 203,464 visitors

These figures represent a continuation of strong tourism performance. Notably, February 2024 recorded the highest number of monthly tourist arrivals in the country’s history, with 217,392 visitors.

So far in 2025, the Maldives has welcomed a total of 771,333 tourists, marking a 7.4 per cent increase over the same period in the previous year. The Ministry of Tourism has attributed this consistent growth not only to the nation’s sustained popularity as a travel destination, but also to effective tourism policies and improved international connectivity.

The steady rise in tourist arrivals has had a tangible impact on national revenue. The Ministry reports that income directly linked to tourism—including the Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST), Green Tax, Departure Tax, and the Airport Development Fee (ADF)—has increased significantly.

In just the first two months of 2025, these revenue streams collectively rose by over MVR 3.3 billion, representing a 12.4 per cent growth compared to the same period last year.
