Maldives High Commissioner presents credentials in Canada

Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, the newly appointed non-resident High Commissioner of the Maldives to Canada, officially presented his Letter of Credence to the Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, in a ceremony held at Rideau Hall, Ottawa on April 30, 2025.
Following the formal presentation, High Commissioner Ghafoor conveyed the greetings and well-wishes of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to the Governor General and emphasised the enduring friendly relations between the Maldives and Canada. He expressed the Maldives’ intent to further strengthen and diversify bilateral and multilateral relations between the two countries.
In her remarks, the Governor General extended congratulations to High Commissioner Ghafoor on his appointment and commended the Maldives for its contributions to global climate change efforts. She also affirmed Canada’s commitment to fostering greater cooperation with the Maldives in key areas of mutual interest.
High Commissioner Ghafoor’s visit to Ottawa included meetings with senior officials from Global Affairs Canada to discuss potential avenues for expanding the scope of Maldives-Canada collaboration.
Appointed by President Dr Muizzu on March 4, 2025, High Commissioner Ghafoor also serves as the Ambassador of the Maldives to the United States.
