The fishpond under the minaret of the Islamic Centre, which had long been in need of repair due to wear and tear, has been renovated by STELCO and handed over to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
The project began last month as part of STELCO's CSR initiative.
The completion certificate was presented to the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, by STELCO’s Managing Director, Hussain Fahmy, during a ceremony held on the grounds of the Islamic Centre.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Shaheem praised STELCO for the successful renovation. He expressed his gratitude for completing the repairs in such a short time, ensuring the project was finished ahead of the ceremony marking the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Centre.
Managing Director Fahmy stated that as a company with a workforce entirely made up of Maldivians, STELCO is deeply committed to preserving the nation’s cultural and religious heritage. He highlighted that the renovation was undertaken to restore the beauty of this landmark, with the hope that the site will be preserved for the future.
He also thanked the Government and the Ministry for giving STELCO the opportunity to carry out the work and expressed his gratitude to all the employees who contributed to the project.
The newly renovated fishpond features a fresh design, with carp swimming in its clear blue waters.
