The new international passenger terminal at Velana International Airport is set to open on July 26, beginning operations with the national airline Maldivian, as part of a phased transition to full capacity by the winter peak season. The project, previously stalled at 54 per cent completion over nine years, has been fast-tracked under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's directive to address urgent infrastructure and tourism demands. Designed to accommodate 7.5 million passengers annually, the terminal will feature modern aviation facilities to enhance efficiency and passenger experience.
