New skills courses launched in 16 islands

Applications are now open for the Future-Ready Youth Programme across 16 islands, offering Maldivian youth free training in skills vital to the national economy.

The programme, part of the Maldives: Enhancing Employability and Resilience of Youth (MEERY) project and funded by the World Bank, is led by the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development.

Open to applicants aged 16 to 35, the courses are fully funded and certified at National Certificate Level 3, with both practical and theoretical components approved by the Maldives National Skills Development Authority (MNSDA).

Seventeen courses are available, including:

  • Jewellery Design and Manufacturing (Dhaalu Rinbudhoo, Kaafu Malé)
  • Gardening (Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo)
  • Housekeeping (Baa Fulhadhoo, Vaavu Keyodhoo)
  • Airport Representative Services (Seenu Hithadhoo, Kaafu Malé)
  • Front Office Services (Kaafu Dhiffushi)
  • Barista (Kaafu Malé)
  • Waste-to-Wealth (Noonu Lhohi, Kaafu Malé)
  • Inventory Management (Kaafu Malé)
  • Tour Guiding (Kaafu Himmafushi)
  • Cashiering (Kaafu Malé)
  • Company Administration (Kaafu Malé)
  • Event Management (Kaafu Malé, Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi)
  • Art Skills (Haa Alifu Hoarafushi, Shaviyani Milandhoo)
  • Computer Hardware and Networking (Raa Dhuvaafaru, Kaafu Malé)
  • Programming (Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo, Gnaviyani Fuvahmulah)
  • School Laboratory Techniques (Kaafu Malé)
  • Guesthouse Operations (Baa Kihaadhoo, Haa Alifu Kelaa)

Applications must be submitted via the Job Center portal of the National Careers Service.

The initiative aims to expand employment opportunities for young people, reduce dependence on foreign workers, and develop Maldivian talent in sectors traditionally dominated by expatriates.

Launched in January 2025, the programme targets training 1,000 youth in critical sectors to better prepare the national workforce for future economic demands.
