Contract signed for GDh. Nadella port project

A formal signing ceremony was held on Sunday, July 13, to finalise the agreement for the construction of the new port in Gaafu Dhaalu Nadella.

The contract was signed on behalf of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure by Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib. The Managing Director of Heavy Force Pvt Ltd, Ibrahim Zameer, signed the agreement on behalf of the contractor.

The project, commissioned under the current Administration, is designed to enhance port infrastructure in the southern Maldives. With a contract price of MVR 78,653,152.46, the initiative is expected to be completed within 450 days.

The scope of work, as outlined in the agreement, comprises extensive excavation and construction tasks intended to transform the area into a modern port facility. The planned works include:

  • Excavation of 82,080 cubic metres of sand from the new port beach
  • Excavation of 19,600 cubic metres of sand from the new canal
  • Excavation of 3,900 cubic metres of sand from the existing port beach
  • Excavation of 16,000 cubic metres of sand from the existing canal
  • Excavation of an additional 48,850 cubic metres of sand from designated areas
  • Construction of 277.7 metres of revetment
  • Excavation and construction of 105 metres of canal
  • Development of 244.7 metres of outer canal
  • Lowering of 17 metres of outer canal bed
  • Installation of a total of 188 metres of groynes
  • Construction of 534 metres of road canal
  • Installation of a 534-metre scavenging apron
  • Installation of 10 mooring buoys
  • Construction of an 11 metre by 11 metre ramp
  • Installation of 6 canal lights
  • Installation of 18 port lights
  • Paving of 2,660 acres of surface area
