Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen has expressed his commitment to transforming the Maldives Police Service (MPS) into an institution that earns and upholds the trust of the public.
He made this commitment during a special ceremony held to mark the 60th Independence Day of the Maldives, where President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with members of both the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the Maldives Police Service.
CP Naveen emphasised the significance of the event, noting that it was the first time President Dr Muizzu had met with members of both forces under one roof.
Addressing the gathering, he reaffirmed the police’s core mission to ensure the safety and security of society, stating that every police uniform represents the dedicated service rendered to the nation and its people.
He further stated that the MPS is working diligently to enforce the law and contribute to national security. This includes ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, prevent terrorism, tackle gang-related crimes, and protect children from abuse and exploitation.
He also highlighted collaboration between the Government and private sector to improve road safety and address the issue of undocumented foreigners residing in the Maldives.
CP Naveen reiterated his resolve to work hand-in-hand with the community to safeguard the nation and build lasting public trust in the police service.
He concluded by stating that the MPS will be shaped to meet the needs of the times by developing its personnel, strengthening operations and investigations, and becoming a trusted institution in the eyes of the public.
